How long does it take?

Philippine Dual Citizenship Guide

Today, Rae wrote in with a question regarding her Dual Citizenship application.

Here is Rae’s question:

How long does it take to process an application for re-acquisition of Philippine citizenship? I am leaving the country in 16 days, and I am trying to decide whether to apply here in the US or wait until I get to the Philippines.

Unfortunately, I really cannot answer your question, to be honest.  The amount of time it takes depends on the workload at the time at the place where you apply. I have heard of it being done the same day the application is submitted, and I have heard of it taking up to 3 or 4 months.  My advice to you would be to call the place where you intend to file the application and ask them how long it is currently taking.

Good luck to you.

I’m from Toronto, Canada and got my dual citizenship back in 2012. I applied in mid April and took the oath in June. It time depended on when an official would be in Toronto to do the swearing in of the oath.

My wife applied for her dual citiezenship in Los Angeles, and it seemed quick. Why you apply to reacquire your citizenship, you may also get citizenship for any of your children under 18 years old. We did this for my son a month before he turned 18. Great timing for us.
